HERSHEY, PA—William F. Simpson Jr. will take over as CEO of Hershey Entertainment & Resorts Company upon the retirement of current CEO Ted Kleisner at the end of the year. Simpson currently works as the company’s president and COO, and he will continue as president when he assumes his new role on January 1, 2013. Kleisner will remain a member of HE&R’s Board of Directors.
Simpson joined HE&R in 1996 as the GM of Hershey Lodge and Convention Center, now known as Hershey Lodge. In 2002, he became VP of the Entertainment Group and was responsible for overseeing the operation of Hersheypark Entertainment Complex. In April 2010 he was promoted to COO, and became president the following November. In 2011, he was appointed to the company’s Board of Directors.
“The succession plan outlined a year ago has been successfully implemented and I am pleased to confirm the Board has ratified Bill’s appointment as CEO,” said Ted Kleisner in a statement. “Bill’s passion for encouraging people to develop to their highest potential is a quality that sets him apart from many other leaders. His 17 years of expertise and successful service to our company makes him the right person to take the organization into its next chapter.”
