NEW YORK—Affinia Hotels has reinvented the hotel lobby of the Affinia Gardens with a residential look, led by Stonehill & Taylor.

The all-suite hotel now features a contemporary living room design for the lobby. A handmade fireplace set in a wood-paneled wall lined with shelves of gardening books and repurposed garden tool accents faces the entrance. The upholstered chairs are adjacent to the hearth with four leather ottomans serving as a coffee table in the middle. There are also two arched floor lamps. The palette features earth colors such as brown, yellow and gray. The look is inspired by the idea of an Upper East Side garden.

Woods and stone bring the residential, garden-inspired look to life. The floor is marble, and the reception desk—inspired by a potter’s table—is done in walnut and zinc. Overhead lights are fashioned from upside-down copper pots. The design team created prints of heritage begonias, displayed on one wall. The patern of the carpet was inspired by a picture of a garden path, the room’s initial inspiration.

The Cupboard is another new feature of the Living Room. It offers grab-and-go food, beverages and merchandise displayed with moss. The Cupboard is featured on open shelves that run along the wall between the entrance and the check-in desk.

The Tea Lounge, just to the left of the Living Room, features two chocolate leather chairs and a couch framed by black wood end tables and bronze table lamps with large shades. The area rug features a scheme of creams and espresso and sits atop dark wood flooring. A long, black wood communal table features a Mac computer for guests to use. There is also a flat-screen TV and a rotating library. Additionally, a coffeemaker offering coffee and tea, such as the custom Affinia tea blend by Harney & Sons, is available on the polished travertine countertop.
