NEW YORK —Continuing to enhance its reputation as a complete technology provider, Kaba Lodging Systems has entered into a couple of key partnerships with its SAFLOK brand of electronic lock systems.

SAFLOK is collaborating with OpenWays and INNCOM International, Inc. as well as introducing new product here at IH/M&RS. SAFLOK and Openways have developed an interface that enables SAFLOK locks to read a “key” that is delivered by an OpenWays-enabled cell phone.

This “interaction” between the two solutions enables the guest to securely receive his or her room number and room key via cell phone, thereby streamlining the check-in and check-out process by allowing the guest to bypass the front desk.

OpenWays interfaces with SAFLOK electronic locks regardless of the card technology being used. The solution interfaces with a hotel’s PMS, CRS and CIS, and can facilitate mobile bookings and mobile confirmations, mobile upgrade offers, e-payment/e-ticketing vouchers, e-concierge and more, according to the company.

Meanwhile, the company’s collaboration with INNCOM has yielded a new radio-frequency (RF) interface for energy management. The new RF interface provides a cost-effective energy-management solution by allowing the lock and thermostat to communicate without the need for an infrared backbone. This integration allows the hotel to use the door lock to communicate via RF to the thermostat every time the door is opened, resulting in improved energy management and a reduction in operating expenses for the property. With the new SAFLOK and INNCOM collaboration, the RF interface provides a very cost-effective retrofit application, according to the company.

SAFLOK also launched a wall-mounted RFID lock reader at the event. This reader can be placed on the wall instead of on the door, eliminating the need for lock trim and minimizing the impact on the hotel's decor. It is designed for hotels and resorts that place an emphasis on minimalist design.
