CHICAGO—Radisson Blu Aqua Hotel, Chicago has received LEED Silver Certification from the U.S. Green Building Council.
The property, designed by eco-conscious architect Jeanne Gang of Studio Gang Architects, is located in Chicago’s Aqua Tower. The hotel implemented practical and measurable strategies and solutions to achieve high performance in sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection and indoor environmental quality to achieve the LEED Silver Certification. It received the award after passing a third party certification review process that incorporated numerous checkpoints to ensure the property’s eco-friendliness.
The hotel made sure more than 92% of construction waste was recycled while it was being built. Day-to-day operations remain eco-conscious in the hotel's 20% reduction in water use, 31% reduction in light power, 100% use of materials with a low VOC content and zero use of chlorofluorocarbons.
LEED-related amenities at the property include the hotel’s recycling program, 80,000-sq.-ft. green roof with native plants and enhanced thermal controllability.
Pierre-Louis Giacotto, GM of Radisson Blu Aqua Hotel, said in a statement, “LEED certification reaffirms our commitment to a greener, more eco-friendly future and we look forward to continuing to be a sustainability leader in the hospitality segment.”
