LA QUINTA, CA—La Quinta Resort & Club, a Waldorf-Astoria resort, is undergoing a multimillion-dollar restoration that gives the iconic property a modern look.
The resort-wide renovation includes upgrading the guest casitas, to be unveiled in Fall 2014, followed by a redesign of the villas, main lobby and public spaces, as well as a re-imagined pool experience. The project will also see the addition of more bougainvilleas, roses and citrus trees.
LA-based Smith & Firestone is leading the redesign, drawing inspiration from the desert surroundings. The firm has created a residential-style design for the guestrooms and suites. Guestrooms feature an earthen palette of ivory, terracotta and chocolate, custom tile work and wrought iron elements, as well as new furniture and carpet and two-toned blocked drapery panels. Rooms also feature citrus-hued pillows and throws, Wingback-style headboards and contemporary Victorian chairs. Bathrooms offer upgraded lighting and sky-blue accessories.
New amenities include 42- to 47-in. flat-screen HDTVs, mini refrigerators, Keurig coffee makers, charging stations with dual USB ports, upgraded fireplaces and photography inspired by the resort’s history and its surroundings.
Starlight Casita patios will offer new fire features and patio furniture, while the custom-designed resort suites will feature new landscaping, upgraded patio furniture and renovated decks with private pools and spas. The resort’s 41 pools will get new decking, contemporary shade structures and water temperature regulators.
The refreshed property, which features 620 casitas and suites and 98 villas, will be unveiled this fall. Additional amenities include the 23,000-sq.-ft. Spa La Quinta, 53 hot spas, 23 tennis courts, Morgan’s, TWENTY6, Adobe Grill and Ernie’s at PGA WEST.

When you hear all the lodging industry projections for the months and years to come, much of the robust growth is forecast to be the result of the expected influx of travelers from China. In what could only be seen as good news for the industry, that expectation moved a little closer to reality when President Obama signed a visa waiver extension for Chinese travelers earlier this month.
