Starwood Grows Latin America Footprint with New Aloft Guadalajara

PANAMA CITY—Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc. has opened Aloft Guadalajara, expanding its footprint in Latin America.
The 142-room hotel is located on Avenida de las Americas, one of the city's most prestigious areas, according to the company. The aloft will feature Aloft's signature WXYZ bar; Re:Fuel, a one-stop, 24-hour grab & go food & beverage area; Re:charge, Aloft's fitness center.
With the opening of the hotel, Starwood expands its presence in Mexico to 26 hotels. The company plans to open 17 more, increasing its portfolio by 20 percent by 2016. The company also noted it will open The Westin Cozumel, its eighth Westin hotel in the country, in the summer of 2016.

When you hear all the lodging industry projections for the months and years to come, much of the robust growth is forecast to be the result of the expected influx of travelers from China. In what could only be seen as good news for the industry, that expectation moved a little closer to reality when President Obama signed a visa waiver extension for Chinese travelers earlier this month.
