DESTIN, FL—Hilton Sandestin Beach Golf Resort & Spa has completed a four-month, $12.5-million renovation of its lobby and public space, Sandcastles Restaurant and Lounge, Hadashi Sushi Bar, Spa Tower guestrooms and Serenity by the sea Spa.
The renovation is part of a comprehensive, multi-year transformation project totaling more than $30 million.
The new main lobby experience features beach-inspired sculptures and floor-to-ceiling windows that lend views of Florida’s Emerald Coast. In keeping with the recent redesign of the resort’s Emerald Tower and meeting space, a fresh, clean color palette and warm residential-like accents have been added, designed to create an air of relaxed Florida charm throughout the lobby and public spaces, with new lighting elements, furniture styles and accents reminiscent of a luxurious southern home.
To expand the three restaurants located in the main gathering area, an additional 3,600 sq. ft. of public space was added to the Gulf side of the resort. Sandcastles Restaurant nearly doubled in size with seating for an additional 126 guests. A private dining room is separated from the main dining area by oversized, rustic barn doors. The extra square footage also allowed for the cook-to-order station to double in size and the addition of a rotisserie.
The new Sandcastles Lounge and Hadashi Sushi Bar has been expanded, with seating for an additional 20 guests. Several hanging high-definition TVs and one 11-ft.-wide “big screen” are featured. Hadashi Sushi Bar has been doubled in size.
The hotel’s Spa Tower was completely redesigned and now houses 202 guestrooms, including two Presidential Suites that feature all new custom furniture, hard wood floors, double balconies, marble baths and steam showers. Fresh paint, plush headboards and new furnishings inside and out are also featured. The tower’s public space has also received new signage, carpet, lighting and wallcoverings.
Serenity by the sea Spa, located in the lower lobby of the Spa Tower, also received a facelift, adding a new color scheme, carpet, all new paint, nine new spa beds and zero gravity lounging pedicure chairs with hammered copper bowls.
Additional enhancements were made to the resort’s exterior, including the replacement of the original porte-cochere with a contemporary, sunlit, pergola-style overhang. An all-new, two level and 160-space valet parking deck was also constructed, creating additional space in the main parking area for self-parking guests.
Bob Earwood of Earwood Contractors of Collierville, TN managed the four-month project, as well as the team of designers, architects and contractors who have worked on the property over the last four years. The partnership included Looney & Associates of Dallas, TX, Rabun Rasche Rector & Reece Architects of Atlanta and Williford-Orman Construction of Birmingham, AL.

When you hear all the lodging industry projections for the months and years to come, much of the robust growth is forecast to be the result of the expected influx of travelers from China. In what could only be seen as good news for the industry, that expectation moved a little closer to reality when President Obama signed a visa waiver extension for Chinese travelers earlier this month.
