Hilton Expands in Northwest China

LANZHOU, CHINA—Hilton Worldwide has signed a management agreement with Lanzhou Friendship Hotel to build a hotel here, the capital of Gansu province, which is scheduled to open in the first quarter of 2017.
The hotel, which will offer approximately 389 guestrooms, will also feature three restaurants, a lobby lounge and bar, three function rooms, 16 meeting rooms, a ballroom and a health club with a spa and indoor swimming pool. The top 32 floors offer views of the Yellow River.
Hilton Worldwide operates 36 hotels in Greater China and intends to expand its presence to more than 150 properties over the next few years.

When you hear all the lodging industry projections for the months and years to come, much of the robust growth is forecast to be the result of the expected influx of travelers from China. In what could only be seen as good news for the industry, that expectation moved a little closer to reality when President Obama signed a visa waiver extension for Chinese travelers earlier this month.
