Outrigger Appoints Mark Simmons VP Sales and Marketing, Asia-Pacific

HONOLULU—Outrigger Enterprises Group has appointed Mark Simmons as vice president sales and marketing, Asia-Pacific.
Simmons, who has 23 years experience in hospitality in the Asia-Pacific region, most of it in sales and marketing, will be based at the Outrigger regional headquarters in Phuket, Thailand. He will report to Darren Edmonstone, executive vice president and managing director, Asia-Pacific.
Prior to joining Outrigger, Simmons was vice president sales and marketing for SilverNeedle Hospitality, based in Singapore. He has held senior executive positions at the Preferred Hotel Group and at Delivering Asia, both in Hong Kong. Simmons has also been responsible for senior sales and marketing and operations positions in Asia-Pacific at the Landmark Bangkok, Accor Asia-Pacific, Century International Hotels, Jumeirah International and Radisson Hotels.
“With his extensive hotel sales and marketing experience, Mark brings an impressive breadth and a depth of expertise and knowledge to Outrigger,” Edmonstone said in a statement. “We are delighted to welcome Mark to Outrigger as we continue our strategic expansion in Asia-Pacific and beyond.”

When you hear all the lodging industry projections for the months and years to come, much of the robust growth is forecast to be the result of the expected influx of travelers from China. In what could only be seen as good news for the industry, that expectation moved a little closer to reality when President Obama signed a visa waiver extension for Chinese travelers earlier this month.
