Jan Larsen Named GM, Hilton Short Hills

SHORT HILLS, NJ—Jan Larsen, a hospitality veteran with more than 40 years with the Hilton brand, has been appointed general manager of the 304-room Hilton Short Hills located here.
Larsen most recently was general manager of the 569-room Millennium Hilton in lower Manhattan where he was responsible for day-to-day operations during the last 10 years. Prior to that, from 1998 to 2003, Larsen was general manager of Hilton Newark Airport in Elizabeth, NJ, where he oversaw the hotel’s expansion plans including the addition of a 220-room tower and 20,000 sq. ft. of additional meeting and catering facilities. He has also served as GM of Hilton East Brunswick in NJ, as well as Hilton Hotels in Tarrytown, NY; Louisville, KY; Greenbelt, MD; and Cincinnati, OH.
Born and raised in Denmark, he is a graduate of the Danish Hotel and Restaurant School, Copenhagen, where he was educated as a chef. After completing military service in the Royal Danish Navy, Larsen moved to New York in 1973 and began his Hilton career at the Waldorf Astoria.

When you hear all the lodging industry projections for the months and years to come, much of the robust growth is forecast to be the result of the expected influx of travelers from China. In what could only be seen as good news for the industry, that expectation moved a little closer to reality when President Obama signed a visa waiver extension for Chinese travelers earlier this month.
