NEW YORK—PKF Consulting, LLC has promoted Mark VanStekelenburg to SVP/practice leader of the firm’s office here. He succeeds industry veteran John Fox, who is retiring as leader of the PKFC New York practice.
“John is an iconic figure in the New York lodging industry and has helped establish the PKFC brand as a leading source for hospitality intelligence in the market,” stated Dave Arnold, CEO/East for PKFC. “Given his diverse talents, I am confident Mark will build on the strong base that John established and grow the services we offer our clients in the market."
Fox joined the New York office of Harris Kerr Forster (predecessor to PKFC) in 1971, and became a senior principal of Pannell Kerr Forster in 1982.
VanStekelenburg moves from the Los Angeles office of PKFC where he has been since 2004 and conducted and supervised numerous economic, financial and operational analyses for hospitality and real estate related clients.
“Mark is a 14-year lodging industry veteran and brings with him a wide range of consulting experience,” stated Arnold. “Mark’s talents will prove invaluable assisting our clients with interests throughout the U.S. and around the globe.”
Prior to joining PKFC, VanStekelenburg held operational positions at the Palmera Plaza Grand Hotel in Spain and the Ritz-Carlton Lodge at Reynolds Plantation, GA. He has held leadership positions with the Los Angeles chapter of Hospitality Financial and Technology Professionals, the American Hotel & Lodging Association Gateway Council and the Los Angeles chapter of the Cornell Hotel Society.
“Mark’s relocation to the PKFC New York office is well-timed considering some of our recent strategic research activities,” noted Mark Woodworth, president/PKF Hospitality Research, LLC. "Mark will target some of the leading capital hotel market participants, many of whom are New York-based.”
“Mark’s background and areas of experience align well with the requirements of these initiatives,” noted John B. (Jack) Corgel, the Robert C. Baker professor of real estate at the Cornell University School of Hotel Administration and senior advisor to PKF-HR.

When you hear all the lodging industry projections for the months and years to come, much of the robust growth is forecast to be the result of the expected influx of travelers from China. In what could only be seen as good news for the industry, that expectation moved a little closer to reality when President Obama signed a visa waiver extension for Chinese travelers earlier this month.
