Hotel brands joins the ranks of the elite 100

Confucius said, “Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.”
This very well could be the case for many of the people employed by Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants, Marriott International, Four Season Hotels & Resorts and Hyatt Hotels Corporation. Each brand earned the distinction of being included in Fortune’s 17th annual “100 Best Companies to Work For.”
Kimpton, which was ranked 21, was the highest of all hotel companies included on this year’s list, followed by Marriott, Four Seasons and Hyatt—coming in at 57, 91, and 95, respectively.
According to Fortune, some of the of the most well-received benefits offered by the ranked hotel companies include paid sabbaticals, compressed work weeks, job sharing and onsite childcare. Not surprisingly, these perks and benefits have not only been wholeheartedly embraced, employees have truly come to appreciate and rely on them.
By no means am I passing judgment on any company that does not offer such perks and benefits. The one and only objective for this column is simply to recognize our industry’s most innovative companies—celebrating their successes, as well as positioning each alongside some of the world’s most iconic brands that have also been recognized by Fortune. Companies such as Google, Mercedes Benz, American Express, General Mills, Intuit and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, have been similarly recognized, just to name a few.
On the whole, our industry has made some progress when it comes to being included on such prestigious lists as the Fortune “100 Best Companies to Work For.” Along with the that prestigious list, both Marriott and Wyndham Hotel Group were included on DiversityInc.’s Top 50 List, which was published just a few months back.
It would be wonderful for the companies currently included in these rankings to climb even higher, and, more importantly, for even more hotel companies earn their way onto the lists.
