Marriott COO McCarthy To Retire In 2014

BETHESDA, MD—Robert McCarthy, COO, Marriott International, Inc., will retire at the end of February 2014 after 38 years of service.
McCarthy, who was appointed to his current position in 2011, began his career as a waiter in a Marriott restaurant outside Philadelphia while attending Villanova University. He was subsequently promoted to a number of higher-level positions. McCarthy noted he plans to explore other hospitality-related business opportunities, including hotel ownership.
Marriott also announced that several other executives will assume broader responsibilities.

When you hear all the lodging industry projections for the months and years to come, much of the robust growth is forecast to be the result of the expected influx of travelers from China.
