HB ON THE SCENE: Vantage Hospitality Passes All Resolutions; Names Award Winners

LAS VEGAS—Vantage Hospitality Group passed all four proposed member resolutions at the 14th annual International Educational Conference & Trade Show held here, at the Golden Nugget Hotel & Casino.
Each vote needed 66.7% to pass.
With 70% in favor, as of January 1, 2014, monthly membership fees will be increased by $1 per year for each of 2014, 2015 and 2016.
Passing with 90% of the vote, members decided that as of January 1, 2014, all individual pages on the brands’ websites will contain the TripAdvisor review widget.
With 94% in favor, voters passed a resolution that regarded the proper use of brand logo on marketing collateral. As of March 15, 2014, as part of the QA inspection, any use of the brand logo must adhere to the required family format, including authorized logos and design. Unacceptable use of the brand logo on one item will be considered “Slight,” two or three unacceptable uses will be considered “Moderate” and four or more unacceptable uses will be considered “Severe.” In extremely severe cases, a member may lose one full letter grade from his/her brand score.
And with 89% in favor, members decided that as current guestroom televisions become unserviceable or are removed, they must be replaced with a minimum 32-in. new flat screen TV.
In addition, the company gave out its Best of the Best awards to Americas Best Value Inn (ABVI) and Canadas Best Value Inn (CBVI) members, and Lexcellence awards to Lexington by Vantage members during the gala dinner and awards banquet. Nominees were selected by member care managers and sales support & assurance program directors from each region before a committee of Vantage executives chose the winners. Most categories have two winners—one for 60 rooms or less and one for over 60 rooms.

Best Website: Seatac, WA (below 60) and Shakopee, MN (over 60)
Best Marketing: Inglewood/Hawthorne, CA (below 60) and Flint, MI (over 60)
Best TripAdvisor Score/Ranking: Manitou Springs, CO (below 60) and Las Cruces, NM (over 60)
Best Social Media: Rockingham, NC (below 60) and McCall, ID (over 60)
Overall Excellence: Humble, TX (below 60) and Amelia, LA (over 60)
New Property of the Year: Kingdom City, MO (below 60) and Roland, OK (over 60)
New Member Development: Ramesh “Ray” Patel – Azusa, CA and Bhupendra “Bill” Patel – North Little Rock, AR

When Strategic Hotels & Resorts announced in August that it was exploring “strategic alternatives,” so to speak, including an outright sale, it left many wondering who had the financial wherewithal to scoop up the luxury hotel company. Many speculated it might be a large private equity company or, perhaps, foreign investors but, in the end, it was, who else, but Blackstone Group LLC that agreed to acquire the Chicago-based REIT.
